Training and Capacity building Programmes

Training on Tailoring: To provide additional income to families and create employment opportunities for poor rural people, the society organized tailoring training in collaboration with NABARD at Kanjikuzhy, Murickassery, Mariyapuram, Karimpan, Nedumkandom, and Thankamani. The 13-day training was designed for women already familiar with tailoring. A total of 211 women were trained and became skilled in making churidars, nighties, and other garments.

Training on Rabbit Rearing: In collaboration with Canara Bank and NABARD, the society conducted training programs at Kanakakunnu, Vathikudi, and Nedumkandom. A total of 350 participants received training and became proficient in rabbit rearing. Certificates were also awarded upon completion.

Training on Aqua Culture: In partnership with Kendra Samudrolpanna Kayattumathi Vikasana Corporation, the society organized aquaculture training at Kanjikuzhy, Manjappara, and Mariyapuram. Three batches participated in the three-day program, with 90 individuals receiving training and a stipend of ₹600 each.

Training on Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion: A seminar on financial literacy and inclusion was conducted for the people of Nedumkandom, particularly for SHG Federations. A total of 100 SHG leaders participated.

Akashaya Jyothi: The Vimalagiri Akshaya Centre organized a training program called Akshaya Jyothi for individuals aged 16-45. The training covered topics such as the Right to Information (RTI), leadership, and financial improvement.

Insurance Schemes: The society offers two types of insurance schemes in collaboration with LIC of India and the National Insurance Scheme. A total of 877 individuals became members of the Micro Insurance Scheme, while 418 joined the National Insurance Scheme.

Joint Liability Group (JLG) Loan: As part of income generation activities, the society encouraged matured SHGs to form JLGs. A total of 99 JLGs were formed, and loans amounting to ₹98,85,000 were provided in collaboration with Union Bank of India.

DRI Loan: In partnership with South Indian Bank, the society provided DRI loans with minimal interest. A total of 200 families benefited, with 150 members receiving ₹15,000 each and 50 members receiving ₹20,000 each. Loan repayments have remained consistent.

Distribution of Sewing Machines: A total of 27 sewing machines were distributed to underprivileged women on an installment basis.

Idukki Disaster Response Team (IDRT): HDS established a team to support emergency relief and rehabilitation efforts. The IDRT team operates within HDS's area of work and has launched the Ashakiranam Cancer Campaign Program. Two training sessions were conducted for IDRT members on first aid and emergency relief, and members registered with the Red Cross Society.

National Environmental Awareness Campaign (NEAC): Training sessions were conducted on the importance of bio-fertilizers and bio-pesticides, along with their promotion. A total of 100 participants attended a special program at Manjappara. Another program, supported by NEAC-CED, focused on the preparation and promotion of bio-pesticides and bio-fertilizers. Fruit plants were distributed to 100 families who participated in the awareness sessions.
