The UPNRM-2 Harithaniravu project, implemented from 2017 to 2024 in partnership with NABARD, aimed to enhance livelihoods, horticulture, and natural resource management within the Vathikudi panchayat. Covering approximately 750 acres of land across villages like Rajammudi, Murickassery, Kiliyarkandom, Perichamkutty, Josepuram, and Kanakakunnu, the project significantly impacted agricultural development.
Diversification of livelihoods was encouraged through the promotion of cow rearing, goat rearing, and poultry units, leading to positive outcomes for participating farmers. The project prioritized sustainable agricultural practices by implementing soil and water conservation measures. Extensive training programs were conducted to equip beneficiaries with knowledge and skills in various aspects of agriculture, livestock management, and NRM. The project facilitated the formation of 55 active SHGs, providing them with access to credit through JLGs and bank linkages. Furthermore, the project focused on cultivating high-value crops like nutmeg, pepper, cardamom, and clove, while also promoting seasonal crops such as plantain, banana, ginger, and turmeric. The project successfully facilitated the marketing of a significant quantity of agricultural produce through various companies, contributing to improved incomes for farmers.
