Lantern Fund

The Highrange Development Society (HDS) in Idukki, Kerala, has implemented a Solar Lantern Program aimed at promoting the use of renewable energy sources among financially disadvantaged families. This initiative is part of HDS's broader efforts to encourage sustainable practices and improve the quality of life in rural communities.

Key Aspects of the Solar Lantern Program:

  • Interest-Free Loans: HDS provided solar lanterns, each valued at ₹3,000, to 750 families. These lanterns were distributed as interest-free loans, making them accessible to families who might not afford them otherwise.

  • Promotion of Renewable Energy: By introducing solar lanterns, HDS aims to reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources, thereby promoting environmental sustainability.

  • Enhancing Quality of Life: The use of solar lanterns provides reliable lighting solutions, especially in areas with limited access to electricity, thereby improving living conditions and supporting educational activities during evening hours.

Through the Solar Lantern Program, HDS continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable development and the empowerment of underprivileged communities in the Highrange region.
